Description
The hallmarked silver ‘Harris’ dish is one of our favourite pieces. Hand crafted in Britannia silver, with an attractive hammered effect in the centre, the origins of these dishes are truly fascinating. The dish is a faithful reproduction from the ‘Armada Service’, which is on permanent display at the British museum. The set is known as the ‘Armada Service’ because of a long tradition that it was made from New World silver captured from Spanish treasure ships. Each of the 26 dishes which comprise the original set are engraved with the arms of Sir Christopher Harris, who worked for Sir Walter Raleigh as an Admiralty official during the Anglo-Spanish War. We believe this to be the most accurate reproduction of an ‘Armada’ dish ever made. We manufacture the dish in 3 different diameters, and each one is presented in a signature gift box. To prevent the silver from tarnishing we recommend cleaning with silver polish and a soft cloth – or for ease, clean with an impregnated silver cloth.
